Born and raised in New Milford, New Jersey, Fuerstman’s childhood was a far cry from the world of luxury he’s created. “Back then a treat for us would be Howard Johnson’s Motor Lodge or Holiday Inn,” he says. “That was my exposure to hotels—until I started working in them.”
