Commuting to Vegas from LA in a fighter jet sounds like fun, but it certainly isn’t practical, especially considering the price tag of $35 million. Since this is (probably) not on the table, allow us to open your eyes to your next best option: the supercar. A supercar will run you more than the average luxury sedan, but definitely less than the fighter jet. For more insight into this exclusive ownership club, we picked the brains of several elite automobile aficionados for what could make the best everyday supercar if you’re not a fighter pilot. After sifting through the high-octane crowd, the 2017 Lamborghini Huracán RWD Spyder is what stood out.
This mid-engined machine is both thrilling and refined, exuding the state-of-the-art characteristics one desires in an high-end sportscar. Combining unmatched aesthetics and on-road experience, not to mention it’s new design epitomizing the word “cool,” the Lamborghini Huracán offers endless appeal. Its naturally aspirated V10 engine cruises with a purr, outputting 580 hp that allows you to reach 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. With a top speed of 198 mph, you could comfortably fit in 9 holes, enjoy a power lunch, grab your dry cleaning, and still have ample time to pick up your lady.
“The rear-wheel drive Spyder enlarges the Huracán family’s core product range,” says Automobili Lamborghini Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Stefano Domenicali. “It offers the lifestyle appeal of open-air motoring with the pure thrill of rear-wheel drive engineering. This is a Lamborghini for those with a passion for life and the purest driving experience on the open road. It’s also a Huracán for those entering the Lamborghini family, wanting a true Spyder experience without compromising on the performance and dynamic handling of a rear-wheel drive car.”
The drive is direct and precise, with a low center of gravity that responds to steering inputs and discrete changes of direction. Paddle shifters are attached to the steering column, meaning they don’t turn with the wheel. That may be a drawback as you rip into the gym at mach 7, but you won’t know until Lamborghini loans you a car for a couple weeks to test this theory out. The interior is comfortable and surprisingly spacious with a hood that conceals a small trunk perfect for an overnight bag. With heated, electric seats that warm you while you’re top-down cruising, and a 19-miles-per-gallon gas efficiency, this supercar registers as one of the most fuel efficient vehicles on the road.
Safety is another feature addressed with pure precision. Electronic power steering is tuned specifically for the rear-wheel drive Spyder, ensuring maximum agility and control in every driving condition. STRADA for daily use, SPORT for sporty driving fun, and CORSA for maximum track-oriented performance are tuned to provide over-steering characteristics, emphasizing authentic rear-wheel drive behavior. The power management system of the rear-wheel drive includes a specific steering setup with recalibrated stability and traction controls, connecting the driver as directly as possible to the road. If you find yourself in a rush or caught in the rain, the soft-top opens and closes in just 17 seconds, but only at speeds of up to 31 mph.
The Lamborghini Huracán RWD Spyder is a masterpiece that for many may come off as unpractical, but for those with comfortable confidence and unmatched flair, it offers membership into an exclusive and prestigious club showcasing a lifestyle saturated in ceaseless stares.
