Art, design, and fashion – three things most synonymous with the name Dolce & Gabbana. Their newest men’s collection is a tribute to the Italian genius of the Parco dei Principi Hotel in Sorrento – designed by Gio Ponti in 1960 – where the colors of the sea mix with the brightness of white light.
A perfect marriage of modernity and neoclassicism is the theme of the collection, where geometric and linear designs (which refer to the ceramics of the Sixties) are combined with prints of statues and busts, in a game of contrasts that’s harmonized by the delicacy of the shades of the sky. Oversized volumes and proportions are the names of the game, and combinations of different materials and juxtapositions are the primary features of each piece. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have built a billion-dollar luxury business based on a cinematic dream of Sicily, and this newest collection is just that.
This latest Spring collection was shown on the campus of Humanitas University, where Dolce & Gabbana is funding medical scholarships and the University’s scientific research into a treatment for COVID-19. A portion of the new collection’s proceeds will go directly to Humanitas. “We’re not about minimalism; we’re massimalismo,” Stefano Gabbana has said. We couldn’t agree more.
