Discerning collectors covet A. Lange & Söhne timepieces for their distinctive aesthetic, fine finishings and superb movements. The Lange 1 collection is instantly identifiable as classic A. Lange & Söhne, and today, it releases an updated Lange 1 Time Zone with a new in-house movement.
The dial displays two time zones at a glance, as well as the date. There is a city ring around the outside of the dial that accounts for all 24 time zones, and there is a graceful power-reserve indicator at 3 o’clock. A large subdial with applied gold Roman numerals at 9 o’clock shows home time, and a second subdial with printed Arabic numerals at 5 o’clock shows a second time zone. This easy readability will be cherished by frequent travelers, as well as those who work regularly with another time zone.
Switching time zones is easy: There is a button at 8 o’clock, which moves the city ring by one time zone towards the east. Simultaneously, the hour hand advances by one hour to reflect the new location. The main time can also be set independently of the second time zone, which is handy for travelers who are changing time when arriving at a new destination. The date is adjusted via a pusher at 10 o’clock. The day/night indicators are cleverly hidden in plain sight on the two subdials. Each has a blue semi-circle in the interior that rotates once every 24 hours, so the twilight hours from 6pm to 6am are located within the blue semicircle, and hours with the normal dial color are daytime. It’s an elegant solution that improves legibility and keeps the dial clean. The movement brilliantly accounts for daylight savings time as well. At 5 o’clock, there is a triangular aperture that is red if the location participates in daylight savings time and is brightly colored if the location has standard time all year.
The watch is powered by the new in-house L141.1 movement that has a 72-hour power reserve and is decorated with A Lange & Söhne’s signature finishings, including a three-quarter plate of untreated German silver, a hand-engraved balance cock and superb decoration. The Lange 1 Time Zone is available in three versions: a white-gold case with a black dial, pink-gold case with silver-colored dial and a limited-edition yellow-gold case with a champagne-colored dial.
