Remarkable Men: Marco Baldassari of Eleventy

As the co-founder and Men’s Creative Director of Eleventy, Marco Baldassari doesn’t just design clothes but he curates a way of life. He has built a brand that embodies effortless Italian sophistication, where luxury isn’t loud, but it speaks volumes. Think tailored perfection without the stiffness, elegance without the ego. Baldassari understands that a modern gentleman wants to look impeccable without trying too hard, and that’s exactly what Eleventy delivers. Eleventy strives for a refined, understated style that works from Milan to Manhattan.

Baldassari has a passion for talking about the art of dressing well without overthinking it. Whether he’s redefining modern menswear or proving that style and comfort can coexist, Baldassari makes one thing clear, being well-dressed is a mindset, not just a wardrobe choice.

What does Eleventy mean to you?

Being Eleventy is becoming the best version of yourself.  It’s the modern interpretation of the Milanese style. Allowing each person to express themselves authentically and confidently through their own unique personal style.  Made in Italy is our commitment to superior quality and the finest fabrics, ensuring our clients receive the very best without compromise. Eleventy is about embracing the journey of becoming your best self and always working to be better than you were yesterday.

How has Eleventy evolved since the beginning of its launch?

Since our founding in 2007, the brand has experienced organic growth over the years. We now have a strong presence in luxury markets with our flagship stores in major cities worldwide, including Milan, London, Paris, New York, Beverly Hills, and many more. Our wholesale business is continuing to expand with our luxury department stores and specialty stores across the world. Our Women’s category is growing beautifully, and I love seeing our clients pair “his and her” styled looks and how they complement each other. To complete the perfect family portrait, we even expanded into kids’ clothing.  Beyond apparel, we have extended into home collections. There’s nothing more tasteful than enriching living spaces with carefully curated home décor and fragrances.

What has been the most surreal moment since starting Eleventy?

There are so many! One that was very special to me was when we opened in the US back in 2015. The US market plays a vital role in our brand’s growth. It remains an essential source of inspiration for our designs and shaping the future of our brand. Americans have a deep admiration for Italy, from our exquisite cuisine to rich art and vibrant culture. They also appreciate the Italian craftsmanship and the timeless style. I’ll never forget opening in New York. Having that New York moment and experience was one like no other. The energy and spirit of New York is unmatched, and watching our client’s reaction to our arrival was like watching my dreams come true. That feeling remains each time we open a new store. This Spring we are opening in two very important markets, Toronto and South Coast Plaza. I can’t wait to bring our modern Milanese style to sunny Southern California. And I look forward to seeing our SoCal clients wearing their Eleventy this summer in Europe!

What is your earliest memory of having a passion for the fashion industry?

I’ve spent most of my life in the fashion industry. I began my career as a salesperson and at a very young age, I remember wanting to be in fashion and build a brand of my own. But I wanted to create something different, simple, yet refined. Sustainable and exclusive. That was when I developed our brand’s philosophy of “smart luxury”, mixing casual and formal pieces to create distinct styles with value. It was important for me to create something sophisticated but blended with modern functionality and comfort without sacrificing quality.  

How has the fashion industry changed since you started and where do you feel like it is going?

The fashion industry is ever changing. More particularly, online shopping has revolutionized the fashion industry, allowing customers to make purchases anytime, anywhere – when most convenient for them. Although we sell online, at Eleventy we take pride in our exceptional in-store experiences and personalized service the moment someone walks in our door. For us, our commitment to premium materials and meticulous attention to detail behind every creation is what drives our business. Every piece is created with precision, ensuring perfect cuts, finishes and stitching that reflects a dedication to artistry. Our products are wearable art, and it is important for our clients to touch, feel, play, and try on these masterpieces in-person, in real life.  

What is your greatest inspiration?

Milano! It’s my ultimate inspiration and is truly the fashion capital of the world. I am so grateful for my town! It inspires me, elevates my creativity, refines my craft, and continuously updates my style every day. But also, our brand thrives because of our clients. They are at the core of everything we do and are truly the driving force for our brand. Every client is welcomed with genuine hospitality and warmth. We look to grow and foster these relationships because we genuinely feel that they are a part of our Eleventy family. Whether I am meeting with a client in our store in Milan, or seeing a client dining in Palm Beach wearing Eleventy, or hosting a made-to-order for a client in Dubai… I cherish these special moments with them. Seeing their confidence while wearing our collections, fuels my passion and continues to inspire me daily.

Where do you love to travel and why? Is there anywhere in particular that inspires you and gets your creative juices flowing?

I travel quite a bit for business. My favorite place to visit is New York, it energizes me! There’s always something new to learn and discover, with endless opportunities. In my world, it’s important for me to travel to understand every market and their needs. In all my travels, I observe, listen, and take inspiration from everything I see and everyone I meet. I draw inspiration from everywhere in the world, and everything around me. Whether it’s nature, culture or experiences. Many times, I even find inspiration in the richness of colors around me. From soft pastels to vibrant hues, color palettes shape our mood and evoke our feelings and the energy around us.

When traveling, what are your “must haves” that you always travel with?

An Eleventy blazer, sneaker, and pocket square. Our pocket squares are an essential element to styling all our looks. It offers a subtle expression of your personality and unique style. It’s that distinct finishing touch that truly makes a difference!
